Reginald Bibby on Celebrating the Word

Given the size of many of their parishes, perhaps more Catholic churches need to do what Protestant congregations frequently do: provide opportunities for people with similar interests and needs to meet in small groups. Such are the sentiments of Waterloo Ontario priest Frank Ruetz who maintains there is a hunger for “Small Christian Communities” and has been spreading the news to the rest of the country. He has developed opportunities   to share faith through Scripture readings, study and   reflection that are aimed at helping them connect their live experiences to the readings (i.e. Celebrating the Word). “This is a heart phenomenon” he says, adding “There is a hunger for the kind of faith community created in these groups. Father Ruetz goes so far as to say the Church can be renewed and revitalized   by these kinds of Small Christian Communities (p. 96).”

F.J. Ruetz

Our Small Christian Community has been using Celebrating the Word for the last several years. We have had small communities for over 12 years. We have used many different materials during that period of time.

I have come to the conclusion that Celebrating the Word is by far the favorite of all.

The keen insight it provides is so personal that every member can identify with itI am astounded of the number of people that were the silent members for years and now join in and share. It is a delight to see these people at Sunday Mass listening attentively with a smile of understanding.

Great site - love Celebrating the Word!!!

Always

We would like to continue receiving copies of your beautiful and thought-provoking explanations of the Gospel.   We continue to meet every Wednesday afternoon with our small group and with Stella George ( 97 years old) as our leader.

We look forward to receiving Celebrating the Word and we do find it very helpful.   We probably would not survive in our ministry without it.   Thank you ever so much.

Celebrating the Word is a very original balanced program, with plenty of food for thought to help open our minds to a deeper spiritual growth.   .   Sharing our stories with one another allows the Spirit to flow through the open window of our soul to reveal who we are, realizing we are all spirits on an earthly journey.

This is our third year with CTW.   The whole program has enriched our lives as well as the life of the parish. These people have offered their services in different parish ministries. Keep up the excellent work.   You are truly a blessing to us all and your program a treasure.
Kinkora, PE

We look forward to our Friday night study with our SCC group.   You put a lot of work and thought into the Scriptures and like our leader says your questions are loaded.

It is wonderful God has used you to reach so many people for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My husband and I have been using CTW with our group in Perth , ON for the past 5 years.   Attending CTW has opened our eyes to a better appreciation of the scriptures.   We want to thank you for all your help.

I find the small group to be the single most effective way of nurturing my journey of faith.   For that reason, I have decided to give it first priority in my various activities.

The discussions we have on the gospel and the responses we have to the questions help me to focus on the readings at Mass every Sunday so they are more meaningful.

We are a small group meeting for over ten years sharing scripture and growing in faith together. We use Celebrating the Word as a flexible resource for the Growing Together in Faith Groups in our parish in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The commentaries are especially helpful, and the questions 'spot on.' Many Thanks!

When in the missions in Jamaica just prior to coming to Louisville KY two years ago, the leaders of RCIA were using CELEBRATING THE WORD as an effective instrument to break open the Word, but also as an ideal content for their prayer gatherings.  I am so pleased with CTW and the power it has to help people mould their faith lives that I continue to spread the good news to Archdiocesan lay ministers and pastoral leaders.

"CELEBRATING THE WORD" is a thoughtful, informative and engaging publication. The fact that it is already prepared and that it is e-mailed directly to our small group leaders (17) makes it practical and easy to use. I strongly recommend it.

As Coordinator of Small Communities at my Church, receiving CELEBRATING THE WORD on the internet makes it so easy to distribute. The format is easy to follow and the commentaries and questions are though provoking.  -  Thank you.

I find CELEBRATING THE WORD both helpful and inspiring in my use of it in R.C.I.A., Scripture, and Preparation-for-Sunday groups as well as with persons trying to improve their prayer life using the Scriptures.
We find CTW) has a good Scriptural content, stimulating questions for discussion and reflection, good format, easy reading interspersed with a sense of humour which lends to a relaxed atmosphere and to trustful sharing. Congratulations!
